Employment Services

One of our most important jobs at Interfaith is helping people find jobs.

Having a good, stable job is the key to building a good, stable life. We give people a “hand up,” not a hand out, so they can get back on their feet and be productive again.

We teach a variety of employment skills through workshops and one-on-one coaching at both our service centers, including how to research job opportunities, build strong resumes, and prepare for interviews. We can help people find opportunities for new career paths through education and job re-training.

 

Vocational Development

We assist our clients in their pursuit of self sufficiency by helping them prepare for, search for, and retain stable employment. Many of the clients seeking employment assistance at Interfaith find that they need to address multiple barriers, ones that seem impossible to overcome.

After assessing a client’s needs, volunteer vocational planners and employment services staff work with clients one-on-one to set employment goals and objectives through an individual employment plan. Clients meet regularly to work through each step of their plan, receiving the direction and encouragement they need to succeed.

To support clients in their pursuit of stable employment, staff and volunteers will assist clients in following areas:

  • Career assessments and employability tests
  • Resume preparation / online application preparation
  • Interview preparation & self-esteem mentorship
  • Job search / employment research
  • Research and advocacy to resolve legal issues affecting employment opportunities
  • Creating an email account, learning to use it safely and productively
  • Filing for unemployment / CalJOBS
  • Applying for and/or researching school and training opportunities, financial aid, scholarships and grants
  • Learning or improving typing/keyboard and computer skills
  • Monthly workshops

Computer Labs

Any Interfaith client is able to utilize Interfaith’s computer labs, located in both our Inland and Coastal Service Centers, to conduct job searches, employment research, résumé building, and other vocational related activities. General direction and assistance is available from volunteers on a limited basis. Hours of operation vary and are posted weekly in the lobbies.

 

Confia en Ti

Confia en Ti is funded in part by a grant from The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF). Created in 1992 as an independent, private foundation, TCWF’s mission is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention programs.

Confia en Ti is a neutral location where laborers connect with employers for daily, temporary, or permanent job needs.  Facilitated by the program coordinator, Confia clients are available for job connections Monday through Saturday to perform home improvement projects, painting, moving, yard work, construction clean-up and more.   Skilled labor, such as masonry and tile work is also available with advance reservation recommended

All Confia clients receive a health screening prior to performing any job duties.  Confia stresses the importance of occupational heath and safety with weekly occupational health and safety seminars, as well as twice-weekly walk-in medical evaluations performed by a volunteer physician.

  • Elementary and junior high education for adult learners

Monday through Saturday
6:00 am – 11:00 am
