Greg Anglea – Chief Executive Officer

Greg’s career has been devoted to helping others.  After graduating with a B.A. in political science from University of California, San Diego in 2003, he worked at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice at the University of San Diego.  In 2006, he joined Interfaith Community Services as the Volunteer Coordinator and Faith Liaison, and went on to serve as the Director of Development for five years.  In 2011, he moved to California State University San Marcos as the Director of Major Gifts, building community support for a regional guaranteed-admission program that provides a path to college for low-income, under-served youth.

Greg returned as Interfaith’s Chief Executive Officer in May 2014, leading an inclusive Strategic Visioning process that returned ownership of Interfaith Community Services to its many stakeholders and produced a clear vision for the future of the organization.  That vision supported the creation of the Hawthorne Veteran and Family Resource Center, a recuperative care program for homeless exiting hospitals; the launch of a new regional system of care for all persons experiencing homelessness, bringing together more than 30 community agencies in partnership; the opening of the Haven House Year-Round Emergency Shelter, North County’s first year-round emergency homeless shelter for both men and women; and the launch of Recovery & Wellness programs to address addiction and mental health issues.

Greg is the Immediate Past Board President of the Alliance for Regional Solutions, Board Member of the Regional Task Force on the Homeless, Co Chair of the North County Live Well Leadership Team, and Immediate Past President of the North County Philanthropy Council.

He received his M.A. degree in Leadership and Non-Profit Management from University of San Diego in 2009.  He lives in Escondido with his wife and two daughters, and when not at Interfaith, he can usually be found playing in a park with his kids or trying not to burn food in his kitchen.


Filipa RiosFilipa Rios – Chief Program Officer

Filipa brings a truly unique set of skills and experiences to this demanding leadership role.  She understands Interfaith’s work and programs, both through her past role as Senior Director of Client Services at Community Resource Center and more recently through her leadership building the North County 25 Cities Coordinated Assessment and Housing Placement system.  Filipa builds strong and meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders, a hugely important factor in an organization that is built on strong and meaningful relationships with 100+ community-based organizations, 355 faith centers, 2,000+ volunteers, 140 staff, all nine north county municipalities, the VA, HUD, and the County of San Diego.

Filipa has taken on increasing levels of responsibility and leadership throughout her career.  She has coordinated and been a part of implementing a diverse set of behavioral health programs at Catholic Charities in the Bay Area; she oversaw a transitional housing drug and alcohol recovery program in San Jose; she managed an affordable housing portfolio over three communities, including 146 apartments; and she developed a continuum of services at Community Resource Center in Encinitas, including their innovative Ways to Work program and a Workforce Development Social Enterprise funded by the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund – a very prestigious accomplishment in its own right.  Filipa holds a Master in Public Administration. She is currently a Doctoral Candidate in the field of Public Administration at the University of La Verne.


Dr. Megan Hawker – Chief of Staff

As Chief of Staff, Dr. Megan Hawker’s role is to support the CEO in the community and within Interfaith. She works throughout the organization, leading special projects in support of Interfaith’s Strategic Plan. Dr. Hawker served as the Clinical Director at Interfaith for four years, supporting all Interfaith programs and overseeing the operations of nine programs. In her nearly seven years at Interfaith, she has also served in the roles of Behavioral Health Clinician and Director of Veterans Services.

Dr. Hawker is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with specialization in trauma, trauma treatment and post-traumatic growth. She earned a B.S. in Biology from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree and Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) in Couples and Family Therapy from Alliant International University in San Diego, CA.

An Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) Veteran, Megan has over 21 years of working with military and veteran populations. Dr. Hawker is a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) in the U.S. Army Reserves, and serves as the Detachment Commander for a Combat and Operational Stress Control Unit.

Dr. Hawker has conducted research on the topic of post-traumatic growth (PTG) in Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and among individuals experiencing homelessness.


Varinda Missett – Chief Development Officer

Varinda continues a tradition of Interfaith supporters who have helped build and grow our organization over multiple generations. She is focused on further strengthening critical partnerships throughout the region and ensuring fundraising goals are met to fuel our array of programs and services.

Prior to joining Interfaith, Varinda was the founder and CEO of Girls World Expo, which produces conferences across the country. She served as Director of Sales and Sponsorships at a media agency in New York and served as the Advertising and Marketing Director for the North County Times. “I’m happy to be home and to have the opportunity to combine my passion for Interfaith’s mission with my ability to drive revenue and build successful partnerships.”


Hanan Pelstring CGA – Chief Financial Officer

Hanan currently serves as Interfaith’s Chief Financial Officer where she oversees Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, IT and Operations activities. Hanan is a Certified General Accountant from Canada where she grew up and became a director at the young age of 23. She brings with her an extensive executive background serving as CFO/COO of several corporations in Canada, the US and Dubai where she guided most of them through financial and operational transition and or restructure. She is a proven
dynamic, innovative leader with thirty plus years of experience in fiscal forecasting, cash management,
budgeting, ad hoc reporting and financial dashboarding of key performance indicators. She is committed
to fiscal sustainability, best business practices and system improvements. Her integrity is her most
valuable asset.

Hanan comes to Interfaith with a passion to impact peoples’ lives and further our mission in service to others. Her service to families in need, is exemplified in part by her recent work in Kenya, where she built a chicken farm in a poor town to help support families financially. Hanan also believes strongly in empowering people by providing communities with the tools to sustain themselves. Her work not only helped families with the ability to feed their children, but also trained young adults on how to start their own businesses. When she isn’t crunching numbers to further Interfaith’s mission, you can find Hanan walking on the beach with her husband.


Lauren Varner Director of Compliance and Quality Assurance

As our organization’s Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, Lauren monitors contract and grant compliance of all government funding sources, supports the development of new policies in accordance to state and federal mandates and develops procedures to improve agency processes. In addition, she supervises data entry staff, ensures high quality customer service to our clients, staff and partners, and assures adherence to HIPAA regulations agency-wide.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Lauren has over 15 years of experience working in human services, compliance and quality assurance, and database system administration. She started with Interfaith in 2015 as the Grants and Contracts Compliance Manager before being promoted to the Director of Compliance and Quality Assurance in 2016.  Lauren left the agency in late 2019, as her husband is an active duty Navy Seabee, but was happy to be able to return to Interfaith in 2021.


Amber RizkallaAmber Rizkalla – Director of Employment and Economic Development

Amber first joined Interfaith Community Services in 2007 as their Grant Writer and Quality Assurance Officer, a position in which she served for four years before moving to New Jersey.  During her time on the east coast, Amber worked for Catholic Charities writing grants and managing the Disaster Case Management Department in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

After returning to her home state of sunny California in 2014, Amber again joined Interfaith as a Program Manager for the Transitional Youth Academy (TYA).  She was promoted to Director of TYA in 2015.  Amber brings with her years of experience in non-profit administration, development and fundraising, program design and management, and service delivery.  She also has a passion for serving youth.  Before graduating with her M.A. degree in Sociological Practice from Cal State San Marcos, Amber worked as a substitute teacher, learning center tutor, youth mentor, and Upward Bound instructor.  She looks forward to expanding the TYA program and providing opportunities for youth success in North County.


Fiona King – Director of Development

Fiona King currently serves as the Director of Development at Interfaith Community Services, where she oversees the strategic implementation of fundraising activities in line with a dynamic communications strategy for the organization. Fiona is devoted to helping others and passionate about addressing systemic issues through advocacy and philanthropy.

Fiona earned her M.A. in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of San Diego, and is a graduate of San Diego State University where she studied Anthropology and Spanish. Outside of her work, she extends her passion for helping those in need as a volunteer foster for local dog rescues. She is a proud dog mom of her first “foster fail,” named Ruth. In addition to her passion for helping both people and puppers experiencing homelessness, Fiona enjoys spending her free time at the beach and traveling.


Patricia Mack – Director of Housing

Patricia (Patti) Mack currently serves as the Director of Housing at Interfaith Community Services, where she oversees all Housing Programs including the Recuperative Care Program and The Turk Recuperative Care Center.  Patti leads a team of housing experts who help individuals and/or families secure a home of their own as quickly as possible as their first step to self-sufficiency and a meaningful fulfilling life.  She also serves as Interfaith’s housing liaison with other service providers, both public and private; acting as an ambassador of Interfaith to the community, government agencies and others.

Patti has been part of the Interfaith team since 2018.  She is a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) with an emphasis in crisis care, severe mental illness and social services specifically focusing on supporting underserved populations.  She earned her B.A. in Psychology from California State University, San Marcos and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University in San Diego, CA.  She is a North County native, growing up in Valley Center and Escondido. Patti is proud to have the opportunity to support the community by being a part of an organization that shares her passion for helping people in need.


Shellie Bowman – Director of  Recovery and Wellness

After 9 years as Program Director at the Veteran’s Rehabilitation Center at Veteran’s Village of San Diego, Shellie joined Interfaith Community Services as Director of Recovery and Wellness. Shellie is a Master’s Level Clinician and licensed addiction specialist with over 25 years of experience in the behavioral health profession. Earning her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from University of Missouri, she continued her training and professional development with The Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas. Shellie developed and implemented the first Substance Abuse Relapse Prevention Program for The Menninger Clinic’s Partial Day Hospital in 1996.

In 2002, Shellie served as acting Director for the Admissions Department and assisted The Menninger Clinic facility in their relocation from Topeka, Kansas to Houston, Texas.  She also served on the Board of the Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston, TX from 2003-2005. In 2010, Shellie relocated from Houston to San Diego to work for the Department of Defense as an Addiction Counselor with the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program at Naval Sub Base Point Loma. In 2012, Shellie was elected Vice President for Region One South of the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and served on their Board of Directors. In 2013, Shellie joined the Veterans Village of San Diego as Program Director for the Veterans Rehabilitation Center.  Shellie is also a National Interventionist and Addiction Consultant with a specialty in Systemic Family Intervention.


Veronica BleaVeronica Blea – Director of Short-Term Housing

Veronica Blea is a highly-qualified leader with 10+ years of social service experience, 4 of which have been within Interfaith’s Supportive Services Department.  Veronica is a natural collaborator and innovator, always seeking new ways to improve service delivery for our clients. Veronica is a well-established leader in the North County non-profit community, as she has held increasingly responsible roles within Community Resource Centers and North County Lifeline. Veronica’s passion is creating and implementing innovative programs that support disadvantaged community member meet their goal of self-sufficiency.

Veronica holds a Bachelors of Arts in Communications, from California State University San Marcos and a Masters degree in Public Administration from California State University Long Beach. Veronica is also a Navy Veteran.


Mary FerroMary Ferro – Director of Outreach and Education 

Mary Ferro, joined Interfaith in 2008 with over 25 years of experience as a community organizer and activist. A graduate of University of California Santa Cruz, she did graduate studies at UCSD. She has developed a model for cities to abate drugs and related illegal activities, conducted training for city staff, police, landowners and managers. Before moving to San Diego, she served as a consultant to Northern California Cities and Counties.

She first served on the facilities team as the Faith Liaison and currently leads work on the intersection of faith and mental health. She currently serves on the Senior Management team, on community boards, committees, and County councils. Her life has been dedicated to giving a voice to those in need.  She says being at Interfaith is like being fed joy every day.


Dr. Santiago Zepeda-Ortiz – Director of Homeless Outreach and Shelters

Dr. Santiago Zepeda-Ortiz holds a PhD in Psychology, Clinical Specialization, Dual Master’s degree in Public Administration and Psychology. Santiago has supported many in need families and individuals in various settings and capacities. His background consists of program development for individuals with co-occurring disorders of developmental disabilities and mental illness, development and management of adolescent substance abuse residential treatment modalities, Assessment of risk manageability of individuals with development and intellectual limitations who sexually offend. Additionally, Dr. Zepeda-Ortiz has provided field capable clinical therapy services for U.S veterans facing complex trauma, supported individuals who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation of children in the Los Angeles area, and adults experiencing various mental illnesses.


Jazmin Oregon – Director of Supportive Services

Jazmin Oregon joined Interfaith in 2014 as an intern from California State University San Marcos. She currently serves as the Director of Supportive Services, where she oversees Food & Nutrition, Senior Services, Social Services, Homeless Prevention Rental Assistance and an array of case management programs. Jazmin worked directly with clients as a case manager at the Libby Lake office in Oceanside where she helped to create mobile case management services and meaningful partnerships to support our clients. She then took on the role of VITA Site Supervisor, where she oversaw and expanded our Income Tax Program, providing free tax preparation services to over 3000 community members a year.

Prior to joining Interfaith Jazmin, worked for the Valley Center- Pauma School District where she provided support for teachers and the migrant education program. She also oversaw youth ministries for her faith community where she remains an active member and volunteer. Jazmin is a North County native, first generation college graduate and holds a Bachelors degree in Human Development, from California State University San Marcos.
