First Face at Interfaith: Victor Hernandez

Victor-headshot2A North San Diego County native, Victor grew up in San Diego and upon graduating from high school, began studying Sociology, with an emphasis in Children, Youth and Families at Cal State San Marcos. Familiar with Interfaith, he starting volunteering with the Senior Services program, making phone calls and helping with administrative tasks. As his involvement grew, Victor’s volunteer work quickly turned into an internship learning case management. When a full-time position opened up months later, he jumped at the opportunity and became a part of the Interfaith team. Previous to his work at Interfaith, Victor also worked with troubled youth as part of a YMCA after-school program.

Earlier this year, Victor was promoted and took on the role of Lead Client Advocate; in addition to providing Basic Needs walk-in services to Interfaith clients, he now manages his own client’s appointments, as well as the front desk schedule, and administrative duties for his department. From December-March, Victor also manages the Interfaith Rotational Shelter, a housing program in which homeless families are given a place to live thanks to generosity of different congregations throughout North County. In the 2014-2015 winter season, Victor case-managed 11 families in the Rotational Shelter, and every family left the shelter with a stable place to live. He also acts as a Housing Navigator for the 25 Cities initiative, finding housing for homeless individuals and families in North San Diego County; to date, he has housed four people and is on track to have two more families housed this next month.

“I truly love what I do here at Interfaith and am lucky to have a career I enjoy,” said Victor. “God has given to me so that I can give to others.”

Interfaith is lucky to have Victor’s passion, dedication, and ability to connect with clients as part of our organization; we are grateful for all of his hard work and success!
