TYA Students Celebrated for Internship Success

griseldaThis morning, Interfaith celebrated students from our Transitional Youth Academy program that completed summer internships arranged through the program with partner organizations. With family and site supervisors in attendance, students were congratulated at a reception with certificates of completion, refreshments and the opportunity to share their experiences.

This summer, 27 students from El Camino High School and 17 from Oceanside High School participated in the internship program with a variety of organizations, including Ivey Ranch, the City of Oceanside, Go Green Agriculture, Mira Costa College, The Boys and Girls Club, and Interfaith Community Services. With these internships, students were able to go through a professional interview process, be held accountable for their shifts and earn, for many, their first paycheck.

“I feel like I can accomplish things now,” said Griselda, a junior at El Camino High School (pictured at right). “I always thought I needed someone to help me, but with this program I feel like I can set goals and achieve them on my own.”

Interfaith thanks all of the organizations that supported our Transitional Youth Academy students this summer and hopes to partner with additional businesses and organizations of all sizes next summer!
