Walmart store’s grand opening brings a gift for Interfaith

Interfaith became an early beneficiary of the opening of a new Walmart store in Escondido.

Walmart presented a check for $2,500 to Interfaith’s food and basic needs program at the grand opening Jan. 29 of its new neighborhood market at the corner of Ash Street and East Valley Parkway.

The community grant came about after a grant request by Interfaith. The grant money will support the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables when donations are running low in our food pantry, and will support the health and wellness of North County’s food insecure families, said Caitlin Kosec, who wrote the request.

“We now have funds to purchase fresh produce to combat hunger and to promote healthy eating,” added Kosec.
