Mad Baggers of the Pantry, Oceanside
Title: Mad Baggers of the Pantry, Oceanside Supervising Staff Member: Jerry Morgan, Director of Food & Basic Needs Overview: Combat hunger by bagging a three day supply of groceries to individuals and families in need. By filling the orders placed in our pantry, you will be working towards fulfilling Interfaith’s goal of helping under-served populations in San Diego. Impact:
- Ease the hunger of a family or individual
- Create more productive community members by ensuring they have nutritious food for themselves and their families
- Allows individuals to focus on other goals such as finding employment, instead of worrying about their next meal
- By allowing individuals to focus on other goals, you are aiding in their empowerment and offering them a hand up, instead of a hand out
- Arrive on time each scheduled day
- Fill orders placed by individuals or families in our pantry in a timely manner
- Maintain an organized and safe working space
- Help stock shelves
- Receive and record donations
- General orientation on services and programs provided by Interfaith Community Services
- Continued contact with a supervising staff member to answer any questions or discuss any concerns you may have
- This is an ongoing commitment
- One morning per week, except the first Friday of every month
- Oceanside Pantry Hours are 8:30am to 11:00am and 1:00pm to 3:30pm

Bi-Lingual Interpreter, Escondido
Title: Spanish/English Interpreter Supervising Staff: Christina Entrekin/Legal Aid Volunteers Overview: Assist our volunteer attorneys once a week in our Legal Clinic. Key Responsibilities: Interpreting for Spanish-speaking clients seeking legal advice and referral. Training and Support:

Volunteer Bar Coder, Escondido
The Food & Basic Needs Department requires 5 volunteers who will be responsible for collecting data to enable us to record number of un-duplicated clients as well as meals served. This will be accomplished by scanning clients’ bar codes on Interfaith-supplied ID cards:
- Arrive at the Nutrition Center at approximately 6:00 AM each weekday, and work from 6:15 to 7:30.
- Scan clients bar code on Interfaith issued ID cards as they get their breakfast using Interfaith laptop computer and scanner
- If they have registered but lost their card, alphabetical duplicate list with bar codes will be available for scanning
- If they have not registered, have new clients fill out registration form

Sobering Assistant Volunteer, Escondido
Position: Sobering Assistant Volunteer Supervisor: Alcohol & Drug Programs Director/Lead Sobering Assistant
- Support interns and staff in the admission, screening, sobering, referral and release process.
- Support interns and staff to administer to the physical and nutritional needs of detox clients.
- Ensure that program participants are under constant observation, with 15-minute visual checks.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of all participants, following all policies and procedures; and if required apply CPR techniques as needed, coordinate with paramedics and police or emergency personnel.
- Respond to participant concerns; provide information regarding addiction and recovery through informal rap sessions and group discussions/sessions.
- Keep sobering area of facility clean and safe.
- Respond to police requests to transport intoxicated individuals to the facility.
- Politely answer telephone, provide information, and log shift transitions into information/action, service log.
- Strictly adhere to laws of participant confidentiality as required by State & federal government (42 CFR).
- Link participants to other Interfaith services as appropriate.

- Min. 18 years of age
- High School Graduate or G.E.D., a must
- Must clear criminal background check
- Knowledge and understanding of program target population: individuals who have multiple problems related to alcohol, drugs, mental illness and homelessness, (i.e., behavior patterns and stress related to these chronic problems
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to work with a variety of people, and specifically, ability to relate to and effectively communicate with the target population
- Knowledge of community resources and programs that can assist the target population
- Knowledge of addiction and recovery
- Ability to clearly and consistently collect data and other appropriate information related to client demographics and services
- Knowledge of computer use and applications a plus, but not required
Volunteer Administrative Assistant, Escondido
The Volunteer Department is in need of computer-savvy Administrative Assistants with a feel for Marketing and Development. Ideal candidates are available on a continuous basis weekdays during normal business hours. Shifts are available Monday through Friday, 2-3 hours, mornings or afternoons. We are looking for five teams of two to provide continued services to those currently served in our Winter Shelter Haven House. Volunteer teams will provide 1/2 hour of service per client for 3-5 clients a day, not to exceed a total of 6 hours of service per week. Share your smile and enthusiasm with more than 40 veterans who reside at Merle’s Place, an onsite shelter at the Interfaith offices in Escondido. Each day this Nutrition Center provides three meals a day to these veterans who are working towards self-sufficiency. By preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, or dinner you will provide them with nutritious meals that will support them throughout the day, as they work toward personal goals regarding employment, housing, and life skills. At the end of the meal, they are also provided a sack lunch for later in the day, all free of charge. By delivering up to 200 lunches you will be supporting these individuals and families, in their efforts to improve their lives. Impact:
- Facilitate productivity of community members by providing nutritious food
- Allows individuals to focus on other goals such as finding employment, instead of worrying about their next meal
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Make sack lunches at your site (or with advanced arrangements, at Interfaith)
- If desired, decorate lunch bags with colorful and inspirational images or messages. (Please refrain from using religious or political messages)
- General orientation on services and programs provided by Interfaith

Volunteer Faith Liaison, Escondido

Volunteer Faith Office Assistant, Escondido
Overview Seeking volunteers with administrative assistant skills or education able to commit to 2-4 hours up to 3 days a week to provide coverage for the Faith Liaison Office and handle visitors and calls when staff is in the field. After initial training, conduct visits with clergy leaders to provide information on ICS services and service opportunities, give presentations to faith groups, and act as ICS representative at special events and functions. Duties and Responsibilities can be customized to skills:
- Maintain files, organize, copy, and update handout materials and packets
- Be able to use Microsoft-office outlook, calendar and contacts
- Preserve confidentiality in all aspects of agency information
- Learn to use E-Tapestry donor data base
- Direct visitors & callers to appropriate programs, and/or staff
- Record calls, visits, and all communication in log, files, or data base
- Maintain contact with staff at facilities to keep current project descriptions
- Data input activities in E-Tapestry, excel, public folders and office files
- Assist in the development of methods to track and record relationship measures
- Keep RSVP lists, record attendance at events, take minutes at GMMs
- Work closely with volunteer coordinator & site staff to design service projects
- Assists in planning & execution of our General Membership Meetings, Annual Meetings, and other special events

Mailing Assistant Extraordinaire, Escondido
We are building our pool of mailing assistants! Each year, Interfaith provides services to those most in need in the community. In order to maintain contact with our donors and community supporters, we host monthly meetings, as well as a variety of special events throughout the year. By organizing and addressing the packages for mailing to these supporters, you will help ensure Interfaith is able to provide services to those in need. Each year community supporters provide monetary donations and thousands of volunteer hours to Interfaith. Help recognize these fantastic individuals, families, corporations, and other organizations who allow us to continue providing services to those in need. - This is a position for 4 hours a day, for one or two days each week. Mornings are preferred. Take on projects to update Interfaith’s community relations Database (eTapestry) under the direction of the Donor Relations Coordinator
- Provide some research, proof-reading, and entering corrections.
- Experience in writing, proofreading, filing, computer data entry
- Good spelling and keyboarding – Accuracy is more important than speed
- Ability to follow step-by-step instructions that will be provided

Comfort Food Specialist, Escondido
Bring a comforting meal for six elderly women who are working toward self-sufficiency. By providing a meal and a smile, you will restore hope and dignity to the lives of these wonderful individuals. At this time, sharing a meal with the residents is not permissible; however, greeting them is highly encouraged. This shelter has a fully equipped kitchen where assembled meals may be baked or cooked or pre-made meals re-heated. Since we are encouraging healthy eating and proper nutrition, please keep in mind that fish, meats & poultry should be baked or broiled. All meals low fat and low salt, low carbohydrates, and sugar free. Herbs and vegetables are encouraged. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a nutritious meal, and juice or bottled waters for 6 residents
- Deliver the meal between 3:30 and 5:30pm on the assigned day
- Possibly meet and briefly greet the residents
- High level of confidentiality
- Allow women to focus on completing other goals
- By providing a warm smile you will remind residents that they are supported by the community
